Carbon Monoxide (CO)
A colorless, odorless gas produced by the incomplete combustion of fossil fuels, commonly found in residential environments from sources like gas stoves, heaters, and vehicles. Exposure to CO can be extremely dangerous, leading to symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, confusion, and at high levels, it can cause unconsciousness or death.
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
Are a group of organic chemicals that can easily vaporize at room temperature, often found in indoor environments due to products like paints, cleaning agents, air fresheners, and building materials. Exposure to elevated levels of VOCs can lead to a range of health issues, including headaches, dizziness, respiratory problems, and long-term effects such as liver or kidney damage.
Airborne Particulate Matter (PM2.5)
Refers to fine particulate matter with a diameter of 2.5 micrometers or smaller, which can penetrate deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream, posing serious health risks. Common sources of PM2.5 include vehicle emissions, industrial discharges, and indoor activities like cooking and smoking. Exposure to high levels of PM2.5 is linked to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, as well as adverse effects on cognitive function.
Carbon dioxide (CO₂)
A colorless, odorless gas that, while essential for life, can become hazardous at elevated indoor levels. Normal outdoor concentrations are about 400 ppm, but levels exceeding 1,000 ppm can lead to health issues such as headaches, dizziness, fatigue, and impaired cognitive function. Common sources of indoor CO₂ include human respiration, combustion appliances, and poorly ventilated spaces.
Formaldehyde
A colorless, strong-smelling gas commonly found in building materials, household products, and furniture, particularly in pressed wood products and adhesives. Exposure to formaldehyde can cause a range of health issues, including eye, nose, and throat irritation, respiratory problems, and long-term effects such as an increased risk of certain cancers.
Humidity
Detecting humidity indoors is vital for comfort and preventing issues like mold growth. The most effective way to monitor humidity is by OmniSensor, providing accurate readings of indoor moisture levels. Regular monitoring helps ensure optimal indoor air quality and comfort.
Temperature
OmniSensor includes temperature sensor that monitors indoor temperature and communicates with a smart thermostat to optimize heating and cooling based on real-time data. By detecting changes in temperature and occupancy patterns, these sensors can automatically adjust the thermostat settings to maintain a comfortable environment while enhancing energy efficiency.
